The Invisible Article

Sometimes the best article is no article: general plurals, uncountable ideas, names, languages, meals. Learn when to say nothing at all.

01

What is the Zero Article?

Nothing is a choice too

English drops the article when the noun is general, uncountable, or a name. You are not being lazy — this is the official rule.

🌍

Plurals, generally

all of them, not some specific ones

Books are my friends

💧

Uncountable ideas

water, music, love — in general

🗺️

Names: people & places

cities, countries, languages, names

🍳

Meals & routines

breakfast, lunch, dinner

⚠️ General → nothing. Specific → a/the. That is the whole trade.

02

Institutions & Routines

No article = the idea, not the building

Go to school means "to study". Go to the school means "to visit the building". No article turns a place into an activity. Match the phrase with its home.
