at/on/in handle the big three; these four do the fine work: by = no later than, until = up to that moment, during = inside a period, from...to = the whole span.

Four words, four jobs
Each of these four answers a different timing question. Once you know the question, the preposition picks itself.

Common Mistakes
Four swaps that change the meaning
By and until are the pair that confuses everyone: by says no later than, until says keep going to that point. Mixing them changes the sentence.
Please finish the work until Friday.
