In the box, on the box, under the box, next to the box. Place prepositions are small words with exact jobs — five scenes cover the everyday ones.

at, in, on — The Big Three

Point, surface, or space

Three place prepositions cover most of daily English. The difference is how big the place feels: a point, a surface, or a space you can walk into.

📍

at — a point

exact spots: doors, stops, buildings

Wait at the door

📄

on — a surface

walls, tables, floors, screens

The picture is on the wall

🏠

in — a space

rooms, buildings, cities, countries

She is in the kitchen

⚠️ Think size: point → at, surface → on, space → in.
