Also, as well as, in addition – “in addition”更正式;“also”中性;“as well as”略显口语化。
The study focused on teenagers. In addition, it examined young adults.
However, although, but, on the other hand, yet, whereas – 需要注意的是:“however”位置灵活,可放句首,也可在逗号后作插入语:
The plan was simple. The execution, however, was disastrous.
Because, since, as, therefore, consequently, thus – “because”引出原因;“therefore”引出结果。
He missed several classes because he was ill. Consequently, he fell behind.
First, first of all, then, next, finally –
However, the results were mixed.
The results, however, were mixed.
The results were mixed, however.
写成 But the experiment failed.(而不是 But, the experiment failed.)
Although it rained, we went out.
Despite the rain, we went out.
- 在没有前置对立的情况下使用 “on the other hand” – 必须先出现 “on one hand”,或者上下文已明显呈现两面。

I studied hard. I did not pass the test. I was disappointed. I will try again.
I studied hard, but I did not pass the test. As a result, I was disappointed. However, I will try again.
