下面是一份简短实用的露营英语指南，零废话，只列出真正需要的表达。
设立帐篷
到达后，你找到位置，真正的工作才开始。掌握这些词汇能让你一次性把帐篷搭好，而不是三次重来。
Pitch the tent – “在那边搭帐篷，远离岩石。”
Pegs（或 stakes）– 你敲进地里的金属或塑料钉子。
“能递给我钉子吗？我要把这个角固定住。”
Guy lines – 当风起时保持帐篷稳定的绳索。
“Tighten the guy lines, or we'll wake up with the tent on our faces.”
整个过程总是一样：展开、摊平、插杆、抬升、钉下。大多数人等到风开始才加上 guy lines，结果后悔不已。
户外烹饪与用餐
露营的厨房有自己的词汇，跟家里的厨房英语不一样。
Camp stove – 可携带的炉子。不是“燃气灶”，而是 camp stove。
“Fire up the camp stove, I'm starving.”
Cooler – 用来保持食物冷藏的保温箱。不是 “ice box” 或 “fridge”。
“The beer is in the cooler, next to the sausages.”
Fire pit – 预设的石圈，用来生火。
“Gather some dry wood for the fire pit.”
Kindling – 用来点燃大火的小树枝和树皮。 Tinder 更小（想想干草或纸）。
“We need more kindling before we can light it.”
学习者常犯的错误是说 “make a fire” 而不是 “build a fire” 或 “light a fire”。“Make a fire” 听起来很别扭，记住用 “build” 或 “light”。
享受户外（以及清理工作）
露营不只是辛苦劳作。即使是有趣的部分也有专门的语言。
Trail – 你徒步的小径。
“The trail to the lake is about two miles.”
Wildlife – 可能遇到的野生动物。
“Keep your distance from wildlife. That raccoon is not your friend.”
Leave no trace – 露营的黄金规则：把垃圾带走。
“We need to pack out everything we brought in.”
当要离开时，你 break camp（不是 “destroy camp”）。
“Let's break camp before it starts raining.”
个人经验给出的最后一句提醒：如果有人让你 “check the forecast”，他们是想让你查看天气预报。若不听从，后果自负。我曾在一夜之内把帐篷变成游泳池，因为我以为自己懂得更好。
