Three little words. One big headache.
अगर आप कभी वाक्य के बीच में रुक कर सोचते हैं कि “I already ate” कहें या “I ate yet”, तो आप अकेले नहीं हैं। Already, yet और still को मिलाना आसान है, पर जब आप हर एक का तर्क समझ लेते हैं, तो ये सब जगह फिट हो जाते हैं।

Still — चल रही स्थिति के लिए
जब कुछ अपेक्षा से ज़्यादा समय तक चलता है, तब still का इस्तेमाल करें। यह श्रोता को बताता है: “यह परिस्थिति अभी समाप्त नहीं हुई।”
इसे “चल रहा” बटन समझें।
- I'm still waiting for the bus. (मैंने पहले इंतज़ार शुरू किया था, और अब भी कर रहा हूँ।)
- She still hasn't replied to my email. (मुझे उम्मीद थी कि अब तक जवाब मिल जाएगा, पर नहीं मिला।)
- Are you still living in Berlin?
आमतौर पर लोग still को वाक्य के अंत में रख देते हैं। मानक अंग्रेज़ी में still मुख्य क्रिया से पहले आता है, लेकिन to be के बाद।

Already — “अपेक्षा से ज़्यादा जल्दी” क्रियाविशेषण
Already बताता है कि कुछ आपकी सोच से पहले हुआ। यह अक्सर आश्चर्य, राहत या हल्की निराशा का भाव देता है।
- I already finished the report. (और आपने कहा था कि पूरा दिन लगेगा! आश्चर्य।)
- The movie already started. (हम देर कर रहे हैं। हल्की निराशा।)
- He's already back from his trip?
Still की तरह, already भी मुख्य क्रिया से पहले आता है (या be के बाद)। ब्रिटिश अंग्रेज़ी में आप इसे प्रेजेंट परफेक्ट वाक्यों में सुनेंगे; अमेरिकी अंग्रेज़ी में सरल भूतकाल आम है।

Yet — प्रश्न और नकारात्मक शब्द
यहाँ अधिकांश शिक्षार्थी गलती करते हैं।
Yet दो जगहों पर आता है:
- प्रश्न — पूछना कि कुछ अब तक हुआ है या नहीं।
- नकारात्मक वाक्य — बताना कि कुछ अभी तक नहीं हुआ, लेकिन आप उम्मीद करते हैं कि होगा।
- Have you finished your homework yet?
- No, I haven't finished yet.
ध्यान दें? Yet आमतौर पर वाक्य के अंत में आता है।
सकारात्मक कथनों में yet का इस्तेमाल एक क्लासिक गलती है।
❌ I have yet eaten dinner.
✅ I haven't eaten dinner yet.
सकारात्मक वाक्यों में yet केवल बहुत औपचारिक या साहित्यिक अंग्रेज़ी में काम करता है (“I have yet to meet him”), पर रोज़मर्रा की बात‑चीत में — नकार और प्रश्नों तक सीमित रहें।
